Biography
Sara graduated from the University of Balamand, Lebanon with a BSc in Mechanical Engineering in 2017. A year later, she finished her MSc in Aerospace Materials at Cranfield University. Her thesis project involved the evaluation of a nano-material embedded commercial solder, C-Solder®, for high-performance structural joining applications. Sara later joined the 2018-2019 Ultra-precission MRes cohort and worked on designing the parameter space along with screening and selecting state-of-the-art tool coatings for micromilling of biomedical grade Ti-6Al-4V.
During her journey as an MRes student she had the opportunity to present her work on two occasions; the first being in EUSPEN 2019, Spain where she was granted the prestigious Heidenhein scholarship for her work and the second being in MCM 2019, Serbia.
Sara has now joined us as a PhD student, very excited to start delving into the design, fabrication and functional evaluation of nature inspired bactericidal implant surfaces. Her project is aimed at minimising the risk of post-surgery infection of biomedical implant surfaces through surface structuring.
