About
Dr Saurav Goel FHEA, CEng is an Associate Professor of Precision Engineering at London South Bank University. He is an Associate Director of the EPSRC NetworkPlus in Digitalised Surface Manufacturing (EP/S036180/1) and the EPSRC CDT in Ultra-Precision (EP/L016567/1) the two running projects with the University of Manchester and with the University of Cambridge respectively. He is a co-recipient of the prestigious Newton Fellowship award from the Royal Society (NIF\R1\191571) which has led to two of the recent publications in the Nature Magazine addressing the Sustainability Development Goals focussed on sustainability and WASH sectors. Currently, he is working on addressing precision machining challenges for ductile-mode cutting of scintillator materials to pioneer the development of next-generation TOF-PET imaging systems (EP/S013652/1) as low-cost Digital Twins and healthcare solutions and addressing the problem of clay swelling using molecular modelling skills funded by the EPSRC (EP/T001100/1). He is also part of the two Innovate UK projects (PROMOTE and ICESLIP) which are run jointly with the TWI and BAE systems based at Cambridge.
At Social level, Dr Goel is keen to address societal challenges such as gender imbalance in an ODA country like India. For this, he has received a Royal Academy of Engineering (IAPP18-19\295) project and more recently he has also received additional funding to work with the University of Johannesburg for knowledge exchange between the UK and South Africa. During the pandemic times, he worked exemplary to develop biosafe surfaces – thanks to the Engineering Pandemic Preparedness Award from the Royal Academy of Engineering (EXPP2021\1\277). To date, he has published 75+ Journal papers involving manufacturing modelling and experimentation with an impressive citation record ~2500. From his work, one of this modelling videos was recently highlighted in the video competition of the UK’s national High-Performance Computer (HPC) ARCHER2.
