Centre for Doctoral Training in Ultra Precision Engineering

Optical Materials Day, Thursday 14 April 2016 at Cranfield University, Bedfordshire, UK. This event will provide an insight to the broad materials used for the production of most of the optical components we take for granted today.

A broad look at the materials used for the production of most of the optical components we take for granted today will be examined in this one day event held at Cranfield University, UK.  Participants will be introduced to the materials and their properties, some of the primary applications and why/how to select the best materials depending upon customer requirements and a host of other selection criteria.

Speakers at this event will include industrialists from major glass producing companies of central Europe whose knowledge in this area has been developed from long careers in the optical glass industry and producing materials for some very demanding customer specifications.

The EPSRC Centre in Ultra Precision is pleased to be collaborating with Optence e.V (Germany) to deliver this one day meeting in the UK in conjunction with SCHOTT AG, Heraeus GmbH and Hellma Materials GmbH.

Optence is a photonic network in Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate, whose members represent the whole optical value added chain from materials over optical components to optical systems and machines. It has successfully delivered this one day meeting over the past three years in Europe.  Its members are very interested in extending contacts in Europe, therefore holding this event in the UK is an ideal opportunity to initiate and support mutual contacts between the UK photonic industry, UK  photonic networks and German companies and networks.

The registration fee for this event is £120.00 GBP (including VAT) and includes access to all the presentations, refreshments, lunches and tour.  Accommodation is not included in the registration fee.  Participants requiring accommodation should make their own reservations directly with the establishment of their choice.  Accommodation details will be available here in due course.
