Henry de Fossard

Henry graduated with a Masters in Physics from Magdalen College, Oxford in 2018. His final year saw him take papers in Condensed Matter Physics, Laser Physics and Quantum Information Processing as well as constructing a 30MHz pulsed nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer for the identification of impurities in fuel samples.  Henry joined the Centre for Doctoral Training in Ultra Precision Engineering in 2018, and was awarded a distinction in his MRes year where he undertook research projects in Laser Induced Reverse Transfer (LIRT) and data harvesting from the Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) additive manufacturing process.

For his PhD Henry is continuing his work on LPBF, with a focus on sensing technologies suitable for integration in to commercial machines for the real time monitoring of the process. The purpose of this project is to reduce the defect rate in the LPBF manufacture of titanium parts.
