Centre for Doctoral Training in Ultra Precision Engineering

Biography

Jack graduated from Sheffield University with an MEng in mechanical engineering in 2008. Following university he took a position as a design engineer at Siemens Energy working on the modernisation and upgrade of steam turbines. In his position he worked on mechanical, blading and manufacturing design. In 2014 he became a senior engineer and technical project lead within the company. In this role he ran upgrade projects on power plants in the UK and US from research and development through to commissioning.

After wanting a new technical challenge, and following an interest in understanding how modern precision manufacturing technology is driving development and creating new design solutions for medical, visual and aerospace devices, he completed the MRes in ultra precision engineering in 2017. He is now researching the metallisation of carbon nanotubes in his first year of his PhD.
